No seagulls were harmed. There was "no evidence of the birds being injured in the incident," which may be the single most Scottish sentence a crime report has ever produced.
The headline says "arrested." That part is off.
The viral version, carried under the word "arrested," overstates one detail. The man was not arrested. He was taken home while officers carried out further enquiries, and was charged later. How is a bird a weapon? Legally, an assault charge turns on the act against the victim, not the object used, so a gull swung at someone can qualify the same way any improvised implement would. The seagull is, in the eyes of the charge, incidental.
The story landed on Reddit's r/nottheonion, where the sharpest reaction wasn't outrage but recognition. One commenter swore they'd read this before.
